At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him. After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,”he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

MARK 1, 12-15 (NIV)

On the first Sunday of Lent, we find ourselves at the starting line of a spiritual marathon through the desert of life. Here, every step can bring us closer to the Oasis or... well, cause us to trip over our own shoes and land in the sand. Today, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus, whom the Spirit led into the wilderness to fast and train His spirit in harsh conditions for forty days. Yes, exactly – before us now lies forty days of desert journey called "Lent."
